We liked the South Beach Smoke website. Prominent phrases about money-back guarantees and lifetime warranties always put us in a positive mood. Our mood changed a bit after we selected the Deluxe Starter Kit and realized we were being charged $99.99 PLUS $9.95 for shipping.

Five flavors were available, but we decided to order the Assortment Cartomizer Pack (available in only the Light Nicotine level), that would allow us to try them all.

The kit arrived four days after we ordered it. We were impressed that South Beach Smoke could process, ship and deliver a product in such a short time. However, our opinion of this manufacturer would not be completely positive.

The first disappointment with this product occurred when we noticed that the flavors of the cartridge atomizers were not labeled clearly. Each cartridge atomizers had a color band which represented a flavor. While this may not be an issue for long-time users, it was not ideal for a new customer. In fact, we had to go back to the South Beach Smoke website to correspond colors with flavors. Light brown signified the tobacco flavor. Dark brown stood for chocolate. Green was for Menthol and red indicated the cherry flavor.

After choosing the tobacco flavor cartridge, we attached it to the long battery. A few drags later, we could tell that the battery had arrived well-charged. The LED glowed orange with every draw on the device. However, we also noticed a disappointing sound as we continued smoking. Each inhalation evoked crackling noises from the unit which became more pronounced the harder we dragged on it.

The flavor of the tobacco cartridge was mild. There was a slight vanilla tinge to it. It was not however, very satisfying. The other flavors lived up to their names and will probably please smokers of flavored cigarettes.

The kit’s two SuperMAX batteries measured out to 3.1875 and 2.6875 inches in length. They were true to their name and performed well — even prior to our first charging. Overall the components were solid and easy to hold.

Though the South Beach Smoke Deluxe Starter Kit comes with an AC wall charger, it does not contain a USB charger. The end caps for the cartridge atomizers, we are pleased to note, include stoppers to prevent leaks.

In our estimation, it would cost $898.06 annually to maintain a one-pack-per-day habit with South Beach Smoke. That breaks down to a daily cost of $2.46. We think that this presents a good, long-term value. This value increases if you take advantage of the bulk pricing option of $31.99 for 15 cartomizers (only $2.13 per cartomizer). Compare these costs to a single-pack-per-day habit with real tobacco cigarettes. At $6 a day, that totals $2,190 over the course of a year. South Beach Smoke e-cigarettes could save you more than $1,000 during the same time period.
